The praise upon rock musicians continues at the upcoming Grammy Awards with the category of Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals.
Trends looks at how the category is shaping up.
Two of the nominees from the Best Rock Instrumental Performance category appear here once again – Jeff Beck and The Black Keys. However this time Jeff Beck is accompanied by Joss Stone as they are nominated for their track “I Put A Spell On You”.
The rest of the nominees are made up of the sort of names you would expect at the Grammy Awards. Muse, Arcade Fire and Kings of Leon are all thrown into the blender – making the category heavily contested.
“Resistance” by Muse is the clear front-runner with 2,878,495 total scrobbles and, alongside Kings of Leon’s “Radioactive” (878,160 scrobbles), Arcade Fire’s “Ready To Start” (1,462,435 scrobbles) and The Black Keys’ “Tighten Up” (936,269 scrobbles), the odds are highly stacked against the veteran Jeff Beck and vocal star Joss Stone as their track has only recorded 13,538 scrobbles.
Whilst the Grammy Awards often acknowledge the experience and significance of Beck’s old school crowd, the power of Muse and similarly the respect given to artists such as Arcade Fire means the award looks set to go to one of the artists belonging to the new school.
