Metallica Free From Record Label, Contemplates New Distribution Strategy

The last record, 2008’s Death Magnetic, was released on Warner Bros. Records. The band’s contract with the label has ended and they’re now free from their perceived shackles.
Ever since the great Napster debacle, Metallica has been the go-to band for their opinions on digital distribution and the future of the music business.
Although little material has been recorded for their next album, Lars speculates about how they’ll get the music into the fans’ hands. “At some point we’re going to want to share that with people that are interested in listening to it. So we gotta figure out ways we want to do that, from giving it away in cereal boxes to getting people to do handstands for it. We could come up with something wacky.”
