[pullquote quote=”Freak monkeys with mediocre tunes keeps you busy and focused by lightness. It changes nothing.”]Radiohead’s performance last night at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, MO was just as good as you’d expect. With more than two dozen songs, the band was noticeably proud of this particular show. But on the street just outside the venue the always controversial group, the Westboro Baptist Church, was showing their lack of appreciation for the musicians.
“God is speaking to you by the mouth of Westboro Baptist Church, Doomed America. You have failed and refused to humble yourself at that Word of God. You do that against your own interest.”
“You have stolen the Word of God from your people and children, and as a sorry substitute, you prop up lightness and lies. You try to get the people to look at the nonsense and not at the wrath of God that abides upon them. “Look at the circus monkey over there and the fluffy setting, blah, blah…” Radiohead is just such an event. Freak monkeys with mediocre tunes…”
This may be the first time that Radiohead has been referred to as as freak monkeys.
According to Nigel Godrich, the band’s producer it was the “Highlight of the tour so far… Being picketed by westboro baptist church this evening.. Hoorah!”
