Tenacious D, the self-proclaimed “Greatest Band in the World” has announced that their new album, Rize of the Fenix, will be released May 15.  It is the first batch of new music from Jack Black and Kyle Gass since the soundtrack to their 2006 movie ”The Pick of Destiny.”

The film, which chronicled the origins of the band was widely considered a flop despite cameos from Dave Grohl, Tim Robbins and Amy Poehler.

So what have Jables and Rage Kage been up to in the last 5 years? According to their new video for “To Be The Best,” since the movie tanked, Jables has spent his time getting immensely famous, buying mansions and doing tons of cocaine, while Rage Kage has been held in a mental institution. With the help of Val Kilmer, the duo are reunited after years apart, and in embarrassing fashion, discover that they forgot how to rock.  Under the tutelage of pal Dave Grohl and Josh Groban, they work to get back into metal shape.

As if that wasn’t good enough, Tenacious D has also released the title track, “Rize of the Fenix!”
