A video has surfaced online of NINE INCH NAILS performing on a teen dance show called “Dance Party USA” back in 1989. It was around the time that they released “Pretty Hate Machine”.
TRENT REZNOR explained how this happened on Twitter. He said, quote, “Many years ago, a young and naive Nine Inch Nails were asked what TV shows they’d be interested in appearing on.
“As a joke (and likely drunk), they thought of the most absurd choice they could come up with at the time. They were then informed their bluff had been called and were actually booked on said show.”
Look Trent, I get that your street cred as a “dark and mysterious” bad ass is kinda damaged by this video, but the band performing in this video don’t really appear to be hating life. They appear to have that “OMG we’re on TV!” look about them. Which means you took this gig as anything but a joke. It appears as that we were not far away from having NIN become the second coming of Duran Duran.
Own it dude- you were young and wanted to be famous and sell records- nothing wrong with that.
