Marilyn Manson’s latest “Born Villain” is his/ their 8th studio album. 15 tracks including a cover of Carly Simon’s “You’re So Vain” featuring guest performance by Johnny Depp.
If You Only Down Download One Track: “Slo-Mo-Tion” or the cover of “You’re So Vain”
Hot Fire Of Truth: None of us are really scared by the black lipstick or weird looking contacts anymore. In 2012 evil doesn’t wear black flowing clothes from Hot Topic; evil wears a 3 piece suit and works in Washington or on Wall Street. Our collective “nightmares” have shifted.
Not that I expect Marilyn to change his name back to Brian and shop at Hugo Boss. But I think the days of him relying on pure visual shock value to get fans have passed.
So the music has to be good. Thankfully, for the most part it is- IF you like this type of stuff.
While this is no “Anti-Christ Superstar” it’s also not a repeat of “Eat Me Drink me”. This is def more of a return to Marilyn’s roots bringing back the dark de-tuned guitars and the goth lyrics. As one fan put it the “emotional” Marilyn has gone and we’re back to the creepiness that made him who he is.
There are a few yawns on this disc but if you’re a Marilyn fan, you’re used to that by now. Overall it’s a really solid record that will make uber-fans happy and win back the fence sitters. If you’re NOT already a fan of sorts this probably will not make you one.
