Where’s the fun in rock n roll?
One Canadian band is leading the charge to bring the glory back to good ‘ol rock n roll. For their latest album titled Sick And Twisted Affair, My Darkest Days has helped themselves to an extra scoop of sex, a second swirl of whipped cream and fully intend to dump a jar of Maraschino cherries on top.
In a behind-the-scenes peek at their second album, the guys say it’s heavier, faster and darker than anything they’ve done before.
“A huge part of the reason we got into music was that music was fun. It was about rock and roll, that whole culture,” says mohawked guitar player Sal Costa. “Over the last little while, I think that’s started to die. Everyone’s writing music about depressing things. We wanted to bring back that edge that a lot of those 80’s bands had.”
“Sick And Twisted Affair,” the first song on the album is about a dark love, how you can’t live without a person,” says singer Matt Walst, “It’s almost like a drug that you’re addicted to.” Bassist Brendan McMillan adds “I think its our version of Welcome To The Jungle.”
The video for “Casual Sex” stars AVN Award winner for “Best Threeway Sex Scene,” Jenny Hendrix, Hustler cover star Sabrina Maree and the hedgehog himself, Ron Jeremy.
“It’s pretty much Matt walking into a room and finding all the band members in pretty weird casual sex situations,” says guitarist Sal Costa, “For example I’m getting dominated by a bunch of girls and Ron Jeremy. Our keyboard player Reid [Henry] has a scene where him, Ron Jeremy and a girl are all sharing each other. There’s a goat. There’s a strip poker scene where Matt and Brendan are going at it with two naked girls. It’s a little different when you watch it because it’s fun, it’s light-hearted. It’s pretty damn cool.”
The nine song album was produced by Joey Moi, famous for his work with Hinder, Daughtry and Santana. Guest musicians include Guitarist John 5 (Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie) and Three Days Grace members Barry Stock and Neil Sanderson.
