Six Things You Didn’t Know About Jack White
Between Jack White‘s two-night stand at L.A.’s Wiltern Theater, KROQ’s Stryker had a chance to sit down with the singer-songwriter. The relaxed in a posh Beverly Hills hotel suite overlooking a few rather orange-looking sun-baked cougars.
The two joked about his recent battles with the Guinness Book Of World Records, his business Third Man Records, his debut solo record titled Blunderbuss, and how he upholstered 100 transparent vinyl records inside some furniture.
As the interview wrapped up, Stryker rapid-fired a few final questions White’s way.
Have you ever driven alone on the streets of L.A.?
“I have. Today I did. In a Barracuda… a 1970 Barracuda!” [post-interview, he revealed it was for an upcoming video shoot.]
Are you good?
“By good you mean fast? [belly laughs nearly prevent him from answering] Yes, I’m fast.”
Melrose, Venice Beach, Rodeo Drive or none of the above?
“Damn man, I guess I’d pick Venice because I was listening to The Doors in the car.”
Have you ever been to a pro football game?
“No. But I was at a Dodgers game last night.”
40 degrees of 90 degrees?
“40 for sure. I’m from Detroit. That’s what I’m used to. If there’s a choice between 40 and 90, I’ll take 40.”
NWA or Public Enemy?
“Whew damn… [pausing for thought] That is not an easy question to answer. We were listening to NWA before the last show we just played. I’m going to pick Public Enemy because Flava Flav is one of the greatest characters of all time. I don’t know where he came from and I don’t want to know. He’s just brilliant. It’s almost a band that shouldn’t have existed, it’s so bizarre and it’s amazing what they put down on wax.
Jack White is currently on tour in support of Blunderbuss, available now via Third Man Records.
