It’s no secret that M83‘s Anthony Gonzalez is a science fiction junkie as confirmed by his music videos. The first of which, “We Own The Sky” features teens bearing witness to hundreds of ominous floating cubes, while “Midnight City” and “Reunion” follow a group of telekinetic children as they run from the government a la X-Men.
Now, the Hurry Up We’re Dreaming producer will get one step closer to his fantasy. Gonzalez recently announced he’s signed on to produce the soundtrack for the new Joseph Kosinski-directed thriller titled Oblivion. Kosinski is most recently known for his direction on Tron: Legacy.
“I’ve wanted to do soundtracks for so long, and starting with such an ambitious project, especially in the sci-fi category, means a lot to me,” says Gonzalez in an interview with independent film website Indiewire.com.” Gonzalez attributes his move to Los Angeles to his pursuit of film work.
One would think that working with such a high-profile director, actor and studio would frighten the first-time music producer. Such is not the case with Gonzalez who added, “I’m not afraid to do my first soundtrack on a big Hollywood movie, with a big budget and a lot of pressure…I like challenges and it excites me more than frightens me.”
Kosinski explains why Gonzalez is the perfect fit, “It can feel very intimate but it also can feel just huge when it has to. His music is able to capture all those different feelings and qualities simultaneously.” Kosinksi continues, “I knew just from his electronic music that he had the potential to create something epic.”
