The Dark Knight Rises will forever be marred by last night’s shooting at the Century 16 theaters in Aurora, Colorado. More than a dozen died and nearly 40 were wounded. It stands to be one of America’s most violent mass shootings.
Paul Ottermat, who made it out unscathed, said of the shooting, “A man walked through the emergency exit. I thought it was some sort of publicity stunt for a second there and then he threw tear gas into the crowd. He started firing shots into the crowd. We ducked down, me and my girlfriend, and dragged ourselves out of the theatre. We ran through the lobby and we heard more shots and ran into the parking lot and got into our car and drove off.”
Moviegoer Jennifer Seeger told The Today Show, “There were bullet (casings) just falling on my head. They were burning my forehead. Every few seconds it was just boom, boom, boom,” Seeger continued. “He would reload and shoot and anyone who would try to leave would just get killed.”
According to CBS Local, authorities say the suspect, James Holmes, 24, killed 10 people inside the theater complex and that three others died after they were taken from the scene.
One of the wounded theater-goers posted his bullet wound from the hospital.
