Huzzah! The Royal Canadian Marriage Approval Council has officially declared August 22 a new national holiday to be recognized the world over. They ask that you treat this holy occasion with the respect and reverence that it deserves: Chad Kroeger and Avril Lavigne are getting married, y’all! Happy Chavril Day!
You might remember Lavigne from the good old days of being 13 years old in 2002 and having a crush on the cute girl who sang that song “Sk8er Boi.” She was married to the guy in Sum 41 for a minute (Deryck Whibley), the Canadian pop-punks who were popular back when you were still watching Scrubs. Chad Kroeger is the lead singer in Nickelback, the big-rock super-group that critics and “the cool police” don’t want you to like (at least not in public, anyway). Although we know you secretly rock out to those guys all of the time, considering they’ve sold more than 50 million albums worldwide.
But it’s a brand new day, Chavril Day, to be exact, when all that matters is this magical union that’s made the new Canadian power couple the talk of Twitter. While we wait for the inevitable double-dates with Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, let’s take a look at the Twittersphere’s reaction to the global phenomenon known simply as Chavril.
