Originally released as a single in 1977, Sex Pistols‘ “Holiday In The Sun” is said to be inspired by the band’s trip to Berlin earlier that year. The band was at their height of popularity and British officials despised them.

After being kicked off the island of Jersey, the band flew to Berlin and hid out for a few days in an attempt to avoid media attention after famously being dropped from A&M Records for destroying their offices and meddling with employees.

Long-time collaborator and filmmaker, Julien Temple, took silent video footage of the band roaming Berlin and edited it into a performance from Penzance shot that same year.

Speaking with Bandweblogs.com, Temple recalls, “It was filmed in Penzance in September 1977, the Pistols arrived unannounced and the audience couldn’t believe what they were getting”. Temple continues, “The live performance was shot using one camera and shows the extraordinary captivating quality of the band at the time.”

The video was released to promote the limited edition super deluxe box set titled Never Mind The Bollocks, Here’s The Sex Pistols. The extensive collection will hit U.K. stores September 24, 2012.
