From the moment she slunk into pop culture consciousness with the video to her 1997 single “Criminal,” notorious rock eccentric Fiona Apple has always played by her own set of often puzzling rules. Currently riding high on the critical success of her most recent release, The Idler Wheel… (we’ll spare you the full 20-something word title), the pint-sized pop star was arrested in Sierra Blanca, Texas, on the Mexican border for the possession of hash last night (September 19). That’s right, hashish, the far more potent marijuana byproduct made from the resin that’s rich with THC. No wonder her album titles are so long.
Sierra Blanca, Texas is known for catching celebrities with marijuana, having already detained famous stoners such as Willie Nelson, his buddy Snoop Dogg and actor Armie Hammer. Unfortunately for Apple, hash possession is considered a felony in the state of Texas.
As of press time, Apple was still being held at the Hudspeth County Jail. According to AP, she’s due to be bonded and released today (September 20).
