British prog-rock power trio Muse is known for making big, grandiose songs in the tradition of classic rock bands like Queen. But for the band’s upcoming world tour in support of new album The 2nd Law, it’s psychedelic pioneers Pink Floyd providing the most influence on the bombastic stage production.
“I think it’s going to be our best tour so far. It’s like our version of The Wall,” Muse frontman Matt Bellamy told KROQ morning show DJs Kevin & Bean, referencing Pink Floyd’s legendary 1979 double-album and subsequent tour. “We’ve built this upside down pyramid structure which is full of video screens. Throughout the gig, it gradually comes down and consumes the band. So we end up eaten up by this pyramid thing, which is all very symbolic, of course. We blast out of it and escape. It’s going to be a big experience. This is our Stonehenge tour!”
American Muse fans will have ample opportunity to witness this new concert spectacle as the band has announced a slew of dates for 2013. They touch down in San Diego, CA, on January 21, winding their way across North America with dates in Orlando, FL (Feb. 25), Chicago, IL (March 4) and New York City (April 15). Find a full list of dates here.
Tickets these newly announced shows go on sale this weekend, October 12 and 13. Check local listings for details.
