Tween pop superstar Justin Bieber is hardly at a loss for fans, given his millions of rabid “Beliebers” as well as famous supporters ranging from Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis (who “cried twice” during Bieber’s Never Say Never documentary) to Johnny Depp, whose daughter Lily-Rose was “touched” when the young singer gave her a pair of purple glasses, with Depp labeling the star “a sweet guy.”
In a recent interview with metal magazine Revolver, Taylor talked about seeing a popular YouTube clip in which a fan “mashed up” Justin Bieber’s hit “Baby” with Slipknot track “Psychosocial Baby,” much to the metal frontman’s delight.
“I know Justin wasn’t responsible for it, but I just thought it was so cool. Everybody thought I’d be pissed about it, but I was blown away… I give him respect,” Taylor admitted to Revolver (via NME) about the clip which was uploaded back in March of 2011, generating more than 12 million views. “He’s a very talented kid and he goes above and beyond for his fans.”
Taylor even went so far as to attempt an impromptu live session between the unlikely collaborators.
“I was in Baltimore on my book tour and Justin was nearby in Washington, DC. I tried to get him down to my reading because I wanted to try to do an acoustic version of “Psychosocial Baby” together,” Taylor said. “But he was actually visiting children’s hospitals. You can’t say anything bad about a guy who’s visiting children’s hospitals.”
While Bieber and Slipknot fans alike contemplate the ramifications of an actual collaboration between the two music stars (we’re looking at you, 2013 Grammys!), Slipknot drummer Shawn “Clown” Crahan has agreed to direct a music video for fellow mask-wearing band, Hollywood Undead. Slipknot will also be headlining the 2013 Download Festival (June 13-14) in England with Queens of the Stone Age, Alice in Chains, Rammstein and more.
