According to CBS News, 20 children and 6 adults were gunned down this morning at a Sandy Hook Elementary, a K-4 school in Newtown, Connecticut where the shooter’s mother worked.
The gunman was identified as 24-year-old Ryan Lanza. CBS News reports that Lanza’s mother worked at the school and is among the dead. Lanza apparently targeted his mother’s classroom, said an official. Most of the shooting occurred in that classroom. Some of her students were among those killed.
Today’s tragedy falls on the heels of a Portland, OR shopping mall shooting earlier this week. According to ABC News, an estimated 31 mass-shootings have occurred since Columbine in 1999.
Artists and musicians have once again taken to Twitter to express their thoughts.
