Rising EDM star & former indie rock drummer, Robert Delong, took a few moments to talk to HFS’s Josie at the 2013 Firefly Music Festival.
Well known for using video game peripherals in his performances, Robert talked about his new favorite toy: “I just recently got a thing called the Midi Fighter, which is a box with like 12 or 16 arcade buttons on it & it has a gyro so you can move it around…that ones fun, cause it’s new.”
He also talked about his recent gig at the prestigious Getty Museum & the mixed crowd: “…It was cool to see the old, conservative art-goers standing out there in the crowd along with the kids with their faces painted…all, you know…drunk (laughs).”
Robert talked about the transition from playing Drums in rock & folk bands to doing his full-time electronic music & the difference between them.“At one point the rave & rock scenes were very segmented obviously, there was no overlap there. It’s kinda cool now, it’s a lot different…I played a lot of rock festivals, but I also play a lot of electronic events and stuff like that & it’s cool to see that people are accepting from both sides. I guess that’s the future, the sort of genre mash that’s happening in the world these days.”
