AFI Signs Record Deal, All-Star Production Team Readies September Release
Announced today (June 27), alternative rock darlings AFI have inked a deal with Republic Records that will power their ninth full-length studio album due this September. The as yet untitled album will be their latest work as a unified group since 2009’s Crash Love.
Singer Davey Havok, guitarist Jade Puget, bassist Hunter Burgan and drummer Adam Carson called on an all-star production team that included producer Gil Norton (known for his work with Foo Fighters, Pixies and Patti Smith) and engineer Andrew Scheps (regarded for his Metallica and Red Hot Chili Peppers recordings).
“We are thrilled to be joining the Republic family for the release of our ninth record,” said lead singer Davey Havok in a press release. “We’ve spent over two years realizing this album and could not be more excited to share it with all.”
Over the course of the past several weeks, AFI posted a series of five short, mysterious videos of themselves in and around the recording studio. The clips had the intended result; fans were sent into frenzy.
Despite the four year gap between albums, Havok and Puget managed to stay in the public eye. The duo released their second album as Blaqk Audio, Bright Black Heaven, on September 11, 2012. Havok also made news from both posing for a PETA ad and releasing a young adult novel called Pop Kids while Puget kept busy remixing alt rock favorites.
AFI has announced two performance including Chicago’s Riot Festival (Sept 13-15) and Denver’s Side Show (Sept 21-22).
