Laura Jane Grace, the lead singer for Florida punk band Against Me!, has announced a series of solo concerts where she’s expected to debut music from the band’s forthcoming album, Transgender Dysphoria Blues.
“Laura Jane Grace Sings the Transgender Dysphoria Blues” will debut August 10 in Philadelphia, with Grace hitting five more East Coast cities over the following six nights before wrapping up in New York City on August 15.
The shows will be Grace’s first since Against Me! pulled out of a scheduled tour with Bad Religion this past spring, with the announcement coming not long after the band lost bassist Andrew Seward. Drummer Jay Weinberg bowed out of the group in December 2012.
Fans who purchase tickets to the solo shows will also receive a download link to a pair of brand new Against Me! songs, which are both “stripped-down, acoustic renditions of full band album songs” from Transgender Dysphoria Blues. The tunes will be available for purchase at the shows on limited edition vinyl 7-inch singles entitled True Trans.
Grace was formerly known as Tom Gabel before starting gender reassignment procedures in May 2012.
“I was always attracted to women. It was never a sexuality issue,” Grace said earlier this year of her high school experience as a guy. “I just knew that if I could make a wish to change into a woman myself, I would have made it 100 times every day. It became so stressful that I’d reach these points where I’d throw all my women’s clothes in a dumpster and swear, ‘Never again will I do this!’
