HFS At Franz Ferdinand: Review
On Monday, July 22 HFS ventured to the Big Apple with the promotions team, three on-air talents, and a bushel of excited contest winners to see the Scotland-based band in the historic Ed Sullivan Theatre for a Live On Letterman webcast with Franz Ferdinand. The band performed songs from their new album ‘Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Actions’ being released on August 27.
Although once inside the theatre there were luxurious seats beckoning to those of us that stood in line for an hour, were packed into a holding room, and waited for about two hours before show time, once Franz Ferdinand hit the stage, within seconds of opening with their new single ‘Right Action’, absolutely no one in the room was sitting down.
After getting everyone up out of their seats, Franz Ferdinand continued their set with “Tell Her Tonight,” taking it back all the way to 2003 with this single from their debut album.
The rest of the set then dove into a “listening party style” with new song after new song from the upcoming album with tracks like “Evil Eye,” which is a darker, ballad-type song, and then faster-paced, punk-reminiscent songs like “Bullet” and “Treason! Animals,” played back to back. They then gradually began bringing it back through the years by sprinkling in tracks from their older albums with songs like “No You Girls,” “Do You Want To,” and “Ulysses.”
Finally, ‘Take Me Out,’ likely dubbed their most recognizable single, was played second to last to a very enthusiastic and chanting crowd. Closing out the night was the song ‘Love Illumination,’ the second single released this past June with music video included on YouTube, The “Right Action” official video was released on July 7 on the band’s YouTube Vevo channel.
With both hardcore fans as well as first-timers in the audience, Franz Ferdinand did not disappoint providing an entertaining set packed with catchy chords and bold beats.
