The next band set to hit the stage in the Red Bull Sound Space is Hawaii’s own Pepper.
The performance and Q&A will live-streamed today (Tuesday, July 30) at 1:00pm PT / 4:00pm ET.
In May, Stryker premiered the band’s first new single “FKARND” off their forthcoming self-titled album (their first since 2008′s Pink Crustaceans and Good Vibrations). The band went on a hiatus after more than a decade of touring and recording. When they were ready to get back in the studio and start writing music, they took the approach slowly, with just bassist/lead singer Bret Bollinger and his bandmates Kaleo Wassman and Yesod Williams “turning knobs and trying to figure it all out.”
“The writing process behind ‘FKARND’ was another first for us,” recounted Bollinger. Instead of whipping out some individual demos and not getting the chance to collaborate with each other, “FKARND” is the sonic antithesis of that. The whole song was based around Pepper “reminiscing on old band stories and laughing.” It was so easy for the group to do that they recorded it that afternoon.
“[The new] Pepper is really aware and has a real definitive picture of where we’re at with music,” said Bollinger. “Everything that’s never happened before; we have it now.”
Pepper’s sixth album, and first on Island Records, the self-titled PEPPER is slated for a fall 2013 release.
