Inspiration comes from the strangest of places. While doing a phone interview yesterday (August 6) My Chemical Romance guitarist Frank Iero decided to write a song. In a blog post, he explained how the song “Joyriding” came together:
“So today I ended up having a very nice conversation about music and other things with Sam Coare from Kerrang! magazine. After I got off the phone I went down into my basement and wrote this song. Sam and I had talked about inspiration and creativity, and I told him I go through periods of making things and then a week later hating everything I’ve made and destroying it all. I told him I’d like to try and experiment with creating something and releasing it before I have a chance to hate myself for making it. So when I wrote this song it almost seemed like a dare…”
This “dare” marks Iero’s latest demo and this time, he released it to the masses. Iero took to Twitter to express his surprise.
wow, thanks to everyone who took the time to listen to joyriding & made their friends do the same. its a wonderful feeling to know you care.—

“I hate my weaknesses, they made me who I am,” Iero sings gruffly over gritty guitars, a heavy bass beat and pounding drums. Listen below.
Iero isn’t the only member of the band releasing new music. Last month, former MCR frontman Gerard Way revealed the lyrics to his new solo track “Millions.”
I had a dream I had woke up in the middle of the night and put lyrics up to my new song on an NME message board. The board no longer exists-—
