The Hives Apologize for Dedicating Song ‘About Blowing Stuff Up’ to Boston
A show in Boston, however, went awry when Hives lead singer Pelle Almqvist dedicated the song “Tick Tick Boom” to everyone in the city last night (Dec. 5).
“This song’s for everyone in Boston. It’s about stuff blowing up. It’s called ‘Tick Tick Boom’,” Almqvist reportedly told the audience at TD Garden during their opening set for Pink (via CBS Boston). The statement angered many in attendance due to the horrific bombing of the Boston Marathon this year, some of whom naturally posted their feelings publicly on Twitter.
Almqvist took to the Hives’ Facebook page today (Dec. 6) to apologize for his careless comments.
“About last night: I wanted to dedicate a song to the Boston crowd because they had been so great throughout the show, and unfortunately ‘Tick Tick Boom’ was the next song in the set,” Almqvist wrote. “The tragic Boston Marathon bombing never once crossed my mind while on stage, and of course it should have. My most sincere apologies to the people of Boston for this unintentional but serious mistake.”
