Tonight’s HFS Locals Only Spotlight highlights a Baltimore band that is making music for a good cause. I first came in contact with Rich from Firekite at last year’s Firefly Music Festival. Rich, an 11 year Lymphoma survivor, and I got into a conversation about blood cancer (my brother in law passed away from a very rare blood cancer a little over 3 years ago) and he told me that his band was working on a song about getting a cancer diagnosis. I asked him to please send it to us when it was completed. And here we are.
The song is called “Hold On” and it’s now available on iTunes. All proceeds from this song are being donated to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, so you’re supporting local music as well as a good cause, which they’re working to turn into a more comprehensive project at TheHoldOnProject.com.
A little background on Firekite, in their own words:
Firekite is a Baltimore, Maryland based band that was formed in June of 2013. If you had to pick a genre to describe this diverse group, it would be alternative rock – but the wide differences in the backgrounds and experiences of the individuals give Firekite a unique vibe. You can hear a wide range of songs at a club, bar or event calling for cover music (Zepplin, Paramour, Beatles, Adele, Linkin Park, P!nk or No Doubt). You will also hear what Firekite loves to play and write most – original music.
If you want to see them live, they’ll be at the Brass Rail Pub in Pasadena on February 22nd and the Waterfront Hotel in Fells Point on March 12th. For more on the band, visit their website and their Facebook page…and if you’ve got a local band you’d like us to feature on the HFS Locals Only Spotlight one of these weeknights at 8 PM, here’s how to get your stuff to us.
