Sum 41’s Deryck Whibley Hospitalized After Hitting ‘Rock Bottom’ with Alcoholism

Over the weekend, Deryck Whibley admitted that he had hit “rock bottom.”

In a post on his personal website, the Sum 41 frontman revealed that he had been struggling with alcoholism, culminating in a sudden hospitalization for liver and kidney failure from too much drinking over the years.

“I was sitting at home, poured myself another drink around mid night [sic] and was about to watch a movie when all of a sudden I didn’t feel so good,” Whibley wrote of the night he was rushed to the hospital. “I then collapsed to the ground unconscious.”

Whibley was hospitalized for a month, doctors informing him that if he had another alcoholic drink, he would likely die. The incident scared him straight.
