Take a quick peek at Fitz and the Tantrums upcoming summer itinerary and you’ll see they have a festival-filled three months ahead of them. And according to the band’s leader, Michael “Fitz” Fitzpatrick, they’re going to need to stock up on the sunscreen.
“I’m Irish, we don’t do the sun very well,” Fitzpatrick joked.
Fitz and his bandmates have already played their latest hit “The Walker,” off their 2013 album, More Than Just A Dream,” at Governors Ball, Hangout Fest and Bonnaroo. Now they’re gearing up to hit the stage at Milwaukee’s Summerfest— aka “The world’s biggest festival”—and Chicago’s Lollapalooza, which was the first “true festival” Fitz And The Tantrums every played in 2011, right when their first record 2010′s Pickin’ Up The Pieces was breaking.
“For them to invite his back and put us on the main stage,” Fitzpatrick said, “in an even better time slot this year, is gonna be pretty incredible for us.”
Fitzpatrick admits he’s not a huge fan of going to festivals as a music fan, he prefers seeing bands in more intimate settings. But as a performer, he loves being on as many festival bills as possible. “There’s no other opportunity that you get to like play in front of 20, 30, 40 thousand people at one time,” he said.
