Gerard Way‘s new solo music already has a somewhat weathered, older feel to it — so it makes perfect sense that his new music video for “No Shows” reflects that.
The video, released today (Aug. 19), features Way and his backing band (it’s still weird not seeing him flanked by Frank Iero, Ray Toro and the others, but alas) donning suits and performing on a stage set for a TV show.
There’s bright, flashing, tinted lights that shine like lasers through the stage, as well as a large bulbed setup behind the band that looks like it was plucked straight out of some of the first music videos and televised performances ever created, a relic of an age perhaps largely forgotten.
Way and co. play it straight; there’s no overarching story like what My Chemical Romance was known for. It’s a performance, and the focus is solely on the song — well, and all the lights, too.
Way’s first solo album, Hesitant Alien, is available now for pre-order. It’s due out Sept. 30 on Warner Bros.
