Muse are back in the studio. To celebrate this big occasion the guys have joined Instagram.

On October 3, the band posted a photo of them amidst a menagerie of amps and persian rugs with the caption “Day 1.” By the looks of Matt Bellamy’s evil genius expression, it seems like things are going pretty well.

A day later, the band posted a photo of them behind the boards with the caption “Listening to some FAT bass distortion.” So, yeah, be prepared for the bass on this one.

And yesterday, fans got a chance to hear a snippet of a new song in a 15-second video of Bellamy on the guitar. Unfortunately, though, you can only hear the drums, since as the caption explains, “The guitar amp is in another room….”

Last year, Bellamy promised fans that things were going to get “heavy” on they follow-up to 2012’s The 2nd Law.

“I have this strong feeling that the next album should be something that really does strip away the additional things that we’ve experimented with on the last two albums, which is electronics, symphonics and orchestral work and all that kind of stuff,” the singertold Rolling Stone in December.

Perhaps they’re taking some inspiration from Royal Blood, a heavier rock band (and one of our New Music to Know picks) who they went to go see this past weekend in Los Angeles.
