The big announcement Mumford & Sons has teased for today is a new album.
The band announced today Wilder Mind, their third album, this May.
Though the band has not officially announced the record just yet, Wilder Mind went up for pre-sale on multiple countries’ versions of iTunes earlier in the day, with an accompanying tracklist and album artwork.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, the band professed no interest in writing a sequel to their last two albums, instead going for a more electric sound and ditching the banjo, for the most part.
It’s Mumford & Sons’ first album since 2012’s Babel, which scored the honor of Album of the Year at the GRAMMYs the following year. The band began a prolonged hiatus in 2013 after two records and multiple years of touring, but a return in 2015 seemed likely after the four-piece began showing up on festival bills across the world.
In addition, via Rolling Stone the band announced four new Gentlemen of the Road stopovers for 2015, with shows in Seaside Heights, N.J. (June 5-6), Waverly, Iowa (June 19-20), Walla Walla, Wash. (Aug. 14-15) and Salida, Colo. (Aug. 21-22). Guests on certain dates include the Flaming Lips, Foo Fighters, Dawes, Alabama Shakes and My Morning Jacket.
Wilder Mind is slated for release on May 4.
