Prophets of Rage Release New Self-Titled Single

By Amanda Wicks

Prophets of Rage have a massive show in Cleveland at the same time the Republican National Convention takes place in the city, but before they spread their message of political dissent, the group debuted their new single “Prophets of Rage” today (July 18). It will appear on their forthcoming EP.

If “Prophets of Rage” sounds familiar that’s because it’s a “reimagining” of Public Enemy’s song by the same name. That song gave birth to the idea that is Prophets of Rage, which combines the efforts of Rage Against the Machine (sans Zack de la Rocha), Chuck D, B-Real and DJ Lord, and takes the politically-charged message of each to a whole new level.

The song features new music. In the opening seconds, it feels very much like a big Rage banger, between the heavy drum intro and the guitar and bass that swell to meet it. There’s also a new verse by B-Real. At just over three minutes, it’s a big statement from a group determined to shake things up musically and politically.
